Adventure is out there

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2017!

I have been so busy resting and recharging my batteries for the year ahead, that I was surprised to see that today already was the 8th of January. Time flies when you are having fun! I trust that you also had time to get closure on 2016 and that you are ready for 2017.

When I think about the start of a new year, I cannot help to imagine the new year as an adventure waiting for everyone. One of my favourite animation movies (albeit one of the saddest first 30 minutes of a movie I have ever seen) has to be the movie UP! what a lovely story about love, adventure and learning to let go. If you have not seen it, do yourself a favour and watch it, even if you are not that keen on animated movies. The movie starts with two friends who share a sense of adventure and are both fans of a famous explorer. As they grow up and fall in love, they start to save money for the ultimate holiday, but soon enough life happens and they need to use their savings for repairs or maintenance in their home. For a moment it feels as though they will never go on their dream adventure and when the wife passes away (insert emotional cry here) the husband decides to take the trip in honour of his wife. In the end (spoilers if you have not watched it before) he realises that the life he created with his wife was the greatest adventure all along.

I want to encourage you to think of this year as an adventure waiting for you and although not everyone will receive the opportunity to travel or have a life changing event happen this year; Adventure is still out there! Make this year a memorable one; whether your adventure is a new job, finding your passion, getting married, finding your true purpose, losing weight or decluttering your home. Have your own adventure, take a lot of pictures, do something that scares you, take a leap of faith and trust in God’s timing – have fun while doing it. Life happens while we are busy waiting for something else.

I hope 2017 is an epic adventure and that you get to know yourself even better during this time.

  1. Never thought of an adventure in this way. Love your point of view! My adventure will be motherhood – which is absolutely new to me. Challenge accepted!
