I have decided to start a series where I share my favourite quotes or words that inspire me. My sister and I (like many other people) find inspiration in quotes or passages that we read, no wonder we spend hours on end scrolling through Pinterest seeking words of inspiration.

This week as I was scrolling through Pinterest and an article caught my eye “Has the word happiness replaced the word selfishness?” What an interesting article! Society and especially our generation has become so focussed on ourself and satisfying our needs that we have become selfish. Although I am a firm believer in looking after yourself on a spiritual, emotional and physical level, (that is why I started this blog), this article really struck a cord. There is no sense in working on yourself and that you feel self-fulfilled and “happy” but you have neglected those around you. True happiness means that those around you are happy as well. Just think about it for a while, when your child is happy aren’t you happy as well? When you see your friend and her face radiates, does that not make you happy? Giving someone in need something to eat and seeing the appreciation on their face, does that not give you all the feels?

Sadly, there are people who do things for others with a hidden agenda, expecting something in return, or because they are actually selfish in that they do something because one day they will want that favour returned. I believe that if you want to experience true happiness you need to do something for someone else who might not ever be able to repay you or return the favour.

I want to encourage you to look around this coming week, in your neighborhood, work or church, see where you can make someone else happy, just because you can. Try to do one random act of kindness this week – I am certain your heart will swell with happiness everytime you do.

If you need some inspiration, visit Girl with cake: This girl bakes delicious and beautiful cakes for random people on the street and gives them care packages. Do yourself a favour and check out some of the pictures. If only the world had more people like her.

I hope you have a blessed and happy week!
